Method of overcoming electrostatic repulsion when storing large densities of charged particles such as positrons

Abstract

WSU inventors have developed a prototype trap that can store significant quantities of positrons that can create a tremendous amount of energy. Particles of antimatter, positrons, probes the basic interactions and properties of matter and has broad potential applications, including development of a new and high quality computer microchips, detecting atomic size defects in thin layers or surfaces of materials, etc.

Applications and Advantages

§   Provides a stable method to store positrons hence prevent premature annihilation.
